What kind of diet should I go on while trying to flatten my stomach and build abs?

I’m going to the gym and going to work with my trainer to develop some routine ab exercises, but what can I eat to flatten my stomach and make sure it doesn’t get any bigger??

I know avoid fried foods but what else??
